I advice you to wait for the buffering to complete before reading this post..
If you listen to any songs, and analyse the lyrics.. there's actually a story behind each one of them. Listening to this song, I don't know how to say this, but it saddens me. It's a sad, overwhelming song.
"Shut the door Turn the light off" The first two lines have a kind of finality about them. Almost as if they're saying 'shut the door and turn the light off for the last time'. It's basically the end. "I wanna lay beside you" If she's going to be lying buried in a cemetery, he wants to be right there next to her. "I cannot hide this Even though I try" He can't hide his sadness, obviously. "Heart beats harder Time escapes me Trembling hands touch skin It makes this harder And the tears stream down my face" He's clearly scared to do what he's about to do. The tears could be tears of sadness over his girlfriend or tears of fear of dying. "Don't wanna be without you My judgement's clouded Like tonight's sky" He's kind of driven crazy by the thought of his girlfriend being gone that he isn't thinking clearly and is not in any state to make decisions. "Flashing lights in my mind Going back to the time Playing games in the street Kicking balls with my feet" You know how they say your life supposedly flashes before your eyes? "There's a numb in my toes Standing close to the edge There's a pile of my close At the end of your bed As I feel myself fall Make a joke of it all" He's about to jump, and one last thought of her and all that is left of her, literally pushes him over the edge. "You know I'll be Your life, your voice Your reason to be My love, my heart Is breathing for this Moment in time I'll find the words to say Before you leave me today" He will be her everything, because she was obviously his everything. He can't wait for the moment he can tell her everything he wanted to say, to see her again. If he knew she was going to die, he would have said something different to her before she left. It may be the real meaning, but as for the songwriter, the amazing Ed Sheeran.. he stated that
"It’s about a girl that died and the boy committed suicide because he cant live without her"
Ed added,Moments is about a boy who wants to escape the thoughts that the girl he loves has killed herself, the only way he can get over her death is through death himself. The lyrics in the chorus are like a desperate plea from the guy to the girl he loves, wishing he could turn back the time and tell her he would be be her everything so she didn’t have to die: “You know I’ll be your life, Your voice, Your reason to be, My love, my heart, Is breathing for this, Moment in time, I’ll find the words to say, Before you leave me today.”
This boy is so desperate and sad that he has lost the love of his life, he decided to end his life by jumping off a building, you can see the thoughts and memories that flash before his eyes before he jumps: “Flashing lights in my mind, Goin’ back to the time, Playin’ games in the street, Kickin’ balls with my feet. There’s a numb in my toes, Standing close to the edge, There’s a pile of my clothes, At the end of your bed. As I feel myself fall, Make a joke of it all.”
It's a great heart-breaking song, and a good song to advice the people who are lucky enough to still have others to spend times with, that one day.. life just simply flashes before your eyes, so appreciate and be very grateful. And as for those who are fighting their lives off experiencing those they love whom had gone earlier, be strong. God's plans are greater, better. Just keep holding on.
